D’Lites
In the late 1970s and early ’80s, America faced a fitness boom that could have easily destroyed many fast-food restaurants. Fast-food companies knew that they had to keep up with the latest trends, and so D’Lites appeared.
D’Lites promised its potential customers burgers made with only extra-lean ground beef, whole-grain sandwich buns, fresh salads, and many other vegetarian choices. Only five tears after the first location opened in Atlanta, there were more than 100 stores in 19 U.S. states ready to take over the health world.
However, D’Lites biggest dream fell apart once one Florida franchisee told the Sun-Sentinel newspaper that people don’t care that much about eating healthy. In 1986, the company filed for bankruptcy, never to return again.
