The novel Gadsby is the longest book that does not contain the letter ‘e’
Believe it or not, the 1939 novel Gadsby, published by author Ernest Vincent Wright is the longest book that does not contain the letter ‘e’. the novel has 50.000 words, but none that contain the letter ‘e’.
But it seems that this is not the only novel that skips this letter, because the author Georges Perec also wrote a book without using the letter ‘e’. Georges Perec’s French-language book is called La Disparition. As you already know, ‘e’ is one of the most commonly used letter in the English and French language, which makes this fact really astonishing.
The longest place name in the world has 85 letters
Do you remember when I said that you can tell your friend these fun facts? Well, unfortunately, you will probably skip this one because it is impossible to memorize it. So, the longest place name in the world is Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. This place is in New Zealand and is 85 letters long. Imagine that you have to get there, but you have to ask someone for directions… it would be interesting, I guess.
Nevertheless, other long place names are: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Wales, Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg in the U.S., Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein in South Africa, and Azpilicuetagaraycosaroyarenberecolarre in Spain.
