Hagrid
Another great Scot who has made a name for himself playing the humongous Rubeus Hagrid in the wildly popular Harry Potter film series is Robbie Coltrane. And of course, they used some movie magic to make the 6 foot actor seem even bigger, but it would be another actor with an even bigger personality that desperately wanted the role for himself.
That big personality would belong to the late, great Robin Williams. So badly did Williams want to be cast as the half-giant that he reached out to the Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling asking for her blessing. Unfortunately for Williams, Rowling was most insistent that all the actors cast in the movie should be British not the improvisational comedy genius from Chicago.
