You might be shocked to find out that more than 80 percent of lies go undetected. However, even if some people will always get away with lying, most lies are really easy to spot if you know where to look. Read on to discover when we’re being lied to, whether at home or at the poker table:
1. Liars offer too way too many details
When someone tells you a lie, he or she has a tendency to add way too many details. As a matter of fact, liars offer up far more specifics than you actually asked for. “Liars tend to embellish in an effort to convince you the story is accurate,” says therapist and HR expert Laura MacLeod, LMSW.
She points to little details such as an exact time, design of the location, who was there with them, and how they were dressed—including persons who are not even relevant to the made up story. “If it feels like too much information is being offered, without you asking, it probably is a lie or at least a partial lie,” she adds.
