Maoist revolution

A series of civil wars led China to adopt a communist ideology in 1949. Mao Zedong, leader of the Chinese Communist Party, came to power and enacted several more or less effective reforms, including the Great Leap Forward in 1958 and the Cultural Revolution in 1966. The consequences would be disastrous. Dictator Mao caused the death of over 47 million people.
