1. ‘It’s going to disappear. One day it’s like a miracle – it will disappear.’
Aaaand it did not. More than 18 months since the start of the pandemic, there is no miraculous disappearance of the COVID-19 virus in sight. This was towards the start of the pandemic, but even so, more health organizations already warned that there will be devastating consequences if the pandemic is not taken seriously.
And can we really claim that the 45th president took it seriously when he made such predictions? We would like it to be true, but one cannot claim something like this so easily. As Dr. Fauci once said, the virus makes the timeline, not us.
2. ‘ 99%’ of COVID-19 cases are ‘totally harmless.’
When we’re talking about a deadly virus that can kill people, or leave them with permanent physical and emotional repercussions, you cannot claim that most of the cases are harmless. Even at the start of the pandemic, the World Health Organization warned people that 15 percent of cases can be severe and 5 percent deadly.
Now, with the total casualties caused by the virus rounding up to 750K, this claim is even more ridiculous.
3. ‘I’ve always known this is a real – this is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic. I’ve always viewed it as very serious.’
When someone who has claimed the pandemic is a ‘hoax’ multiple times, this statement is by far the most shocking. And by shocking we mean that we truly cannot believe how unreal this seems. The ex-president has been criticized numerous times about how he chose to handle the pandemic and how long it took him to set in motion a stronger response.
His comment to that. ‘I do not take responsibility at all.’ We do not know what is worse: claiming he cared about the pandemic when he didn’t, or that he doesn’t view his slow response as his responsibility.
