The American actress Gabourey Sidibe worked at a phone-sex company, prior to scoring her breakthrough role as “Precious,” a role that earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.
According to Sidibe, this gig provided the acting lessons that made it possible for her to move on to bigger and better things. “I knew that when people were asking me, ‘So have you had any acting training?’ my acting school was on the phone, pretending to be some super-young 21-year-old college girl named Melody. I know that was my acting,” says Sidibe.
