Studies have revealed that Tikal is some four times bigger than experts originally thought. They’ve also uncovered a central temple that was previously assumed to be a hill.
Archaeologists are continuing to examine the site and the surrounding Guatemalan jungle, and the new technology is bound to throw up some more secrets in the near future. In the meantime, you can visit the existing Tikal complex independently or with a guide – time your trip for sunrise or sunset for the best views.
