Light-emitting diodes were actually invented in the ’60s and although they are nothing new, making them affordable to anyone took a while. The adoption of LEDs in most households began to spread only over the past decade. Ten years ago, if you’ve had LED bulbs in your house, you were probably rich.
Bionic eyes
The Food and Drug Administration approved the use of the first bionic eye in 2013. The bionic eye uses built-in cameras in order to transfer data to the patient’s retina; however, they can’t entirely “give” someone’s vision back. Still, they can help vision-impaired patients to distinguish between light and dark.
