6 Things You Should (and Shouldn’t) Buy at Dollar Stores

Better Not To Buy

Tools

If you happen to be in a situation where you desperately need a screwdriver and the Dollar Store is the only close-by shop, don’t turn a blind eye and get what you need from them. Especially if you plan to build up a collection of essentials that will not fail you when you need them the most. Better to invest in pricier but higher quality tools, than the ones from the Dollar Store which are of questionable quality.

Earbuds or Headphones

Not all of us are able or willing to spend $200 on headphones. At the same time, if you want to find a deal, you should look for some up to $50 and not look at the options costing a few bucks that are available at the Dollar Store. Not only will they have horrible sound quality, but they are not going to last you a long time. Sure, you can make the argument that you can just keep buying $1 pairs, but do you really want to keep doing that when you can get decent earbuds or headphones for about $20?

Knives

If you’re building a camping set, you can rely on the Dollar Store knives with no issues: they are great for a short period of time. Yet, if you are going to buy some knives for your home, it is a good idea to invest in higher quality ones that may cost you more initially. They are going to be pricier, but they will last you longer and you will not have to worry about replacing them.

Plastic Cooking Utensils

This is a PSA in general, not just for the utensils from the Dollar Store: avoid plastic cooking utensils. Instead, focus on getting silicone, wood, or stainless-steel ones (make sure you can use them in your pans if you go for this option, as steel can scratch Teflon or specially coated pans). Plastic utensils can have adverse health effects even if they’re cheaper. Better safe than sorry!
