The Nazca Lines
Found in the dusty, arid southern landscapes of Peru, lies a series of curious geoglyphs etched into the desert floor. These mystifying, mystical lines and geometric shapes vary in complexity, with more than 70 of them being zoomorphic designs, including a hummingbird, spider, fish, condor, heron, monkey, lizard, dog, cat, and a human (we’ll get to that later).
Although the Nazca Lines have been mentioned as far back as 1553 by Spanish conquistador and chronicler of Peru, Pedro Cieza de León, in his book where he described them as ‘trail markers’, and despite being able to view them from nearby hills, it wouldn’t be until the advent of manned flight before we would get to experience these arcane lines in their full glory.
