The Nazca Lines (cont.)
Archaeologists believe the lines and figures were created sometime between 500 BCE and 500 CE. Their method of creation holds little mystery as the native people just removed the top layer of reddish-brown iron oxide-coated pebbles to reveal a yellow-grey subsoil. Due to the stable climate of the plateau, they have remained unchanged for centuries.
The purpose of the lines is where the real mystery lies. Some believe they are an ode to the deities in the sky, others think they are ceremonial pathways, most likely leading to sources of water. Or perhaps they have some astronomical and cosmological significance, describing constellations in artistic form. The answer may be one or all of the theories put forward, but one man certainly thinks he has the answers, you guessed it….. aliens.
