Someone stole Einstein’s brain when he died

One of the most important physicists in the world, Albert Einstein passed away on April 18, 1955, and according to National Geographic, he left behind some instructions about what should be done with his body. In other words, our genius did not want his brain to be studied so he said that he wants to “cremate them, and scatter the ashes secretly in order to discourage idolaters.”

But Thomas Harvey, the pathologist on call when Einstein died at New Jersey’s Princeton Hospital, stole his brain. When Einstein’s family found out, they did not report the theft. So, Harvey kept the brain in jars.

Today 46 small portions of Einstein’s brain can be found in the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia if you want to have a look for yourself.
