These Are 5 of the Weirdest State Laws

5. Louisiana

Starting lightly, this one is bound to bring a chuckle out of you. In Louisiana, it is illegal to send a surprise pizza to someone. Yes, you read that right.

If a friend loved one or family member is having a bad day and you’re thinking of bringing a ray of sunshine to them in the form of comfort food, keep pizza off your list. You cannot have delivery pizza sent to them as a surprise unless you do not mind getting in trouble with the law. Who knows?  Maybe one too many pizza delivery pranks sparked the idea in the legislator’s mind when they thought this one up.

4. New Mexico

This New Mexico law is as funny as it seems like it would be needed. The state bans what they dub as “idiots” from voting. How they got to this point is a bit of a mystery, but it is mentioned, alongside the ones that are “insane” and convicted of serious felonies or murder.

It should not be that surprising that a state has ex-criminals banned from voting, as is the case with several states, but to our knowledge, only New Mexico prohibits “idiots” from voting. This law left us wondering how do they know who is one and who is not, and if they actually enforce it.

3. Alaska

In Alaska, it is illegal to get drunk in a bar. One might think that for some the bar is just for that, but Alaska probably has seen one too many drunks, that maybe tried to counter the freezing temperatures.

The law specifically mentions that someone who got drunk cannot remain in the bar or “knowingly” enter another. Even the bartenders can get in trouble under this law if they are found serving drinks to inebriated people. Unfortunately, you can definitely skip bar hopping if you are in Alaska as the state actually enforces this law.
