There are a lot of well known facts about our great nation every school child, and adult alike, know all too well. However, there are some strange facts that most Americans are probably completely unaware of, like the fact we celebrate a famous event on the wrong day or that the highest court in the land isn’t where you think it is. Getting the Dates Mixed up
As Americans we fire up the grill and crack open a cold one every 4th of July to celebrate our independence from those pesky Brits. Sure enough, on the 4th of July 1776, delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson. However, it was actually two days earlier when the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence.
A Crime of Fashion?
While we are on the subject of Independence Day, I’m sure most of you at some point in your life have worn a piece of clothing with the stars and stripes on it, right? Well, you’ve actually been breaking the law this whole time as the U.S. Flag Code states that “no part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.” Although, I wouldn’t be too worried about the F.B.I kicking your door in and leading you away in handcuffs just yet.
