12 Things You Don’t Clean As Often As You Should

We all remember to clean the obvious things in our homes such as hardwood floors, furniture, or bedding, but what about your toothbrush holder? How often do you clean it? If you can’t recall when was the last time you brushed that holder, you should check our list of things you don’t clean as often as you should.

1. Ceiling fans

The blades of a ceiling fan are actually very dusty, that’s why they should be cleaned at least once a month to keep germs and bacteria at bay.

Jacqueline Janus, cleaning expert and owner of cleaning company Two Chicks and a Broom also suggests cleaning them regularly. “You can’t see up there, but it’s a great place for dust to settle, even if you keep them running. An extendable microfiber duster is perfect for this.”

  1. I agree that we forget to clean some of these things. But credit cards? Library cards, etc? These things have been in my wallet for 50 years and they never made me sick.

  2. Most all of these I do, but not EVERY TIME I clean. Door handles, ledge space over doors are also well over looked places. Enjoyed

  3. Very helpful tips. I will add into my cleaning routine. I keep baking soda in the freezer but didn’t think about cleaning the freezer with it.

  4. I clean one shelf in my fridge each Monday, and the freezer compartment when there are five Mondays in the month. The trash goes out Monday night, so if there are things that need to be disposed of, it’s easy to move them from the fridge to the trash can.

  5. It would be nice if we all had time and energy to clean as often as you suggest. I do spring and Fall cleaning religiously, that’s the only time the furniture gets moved. I am 77, that’s part of the problem, I don’t have the same motivation as when I was 40.

  6. While you are at it..clean that toothbrush..maybe soaking it in mouthwash for awhile. Also clean your hairbrush…I soak mine in hot water, a drop of soap and a drop of bleach.

  7. The first time you tackle that neglected fridge or freezer have a large empty dog food or cat food bag handy to drop all the old food and gunk into.

  8. I agree with cleaning credit cards. Yesterday, for example, 3 different people handled my credit card because of the setup their business had with their credit card machine. I like businesses that have their machines set up so I can slide or insert my card.
