Going For Gold
The fact that in 2008, China was able to host one of the most expensive Olympics Games while Western economies were fighting for their lives due to the Global Financial Crisis was duly noted on the global stage as China showed just how economically secure they were. And while many had called for a boycott of the event because of China’s human rights record, the games went ahead as planned and were a massive success.
As the fireworks exploded over Beijing in the opening ceremony, the question of whether China can have the best of both communist and capitalist worlds was explosively answered with a resounding yes.
