Travis Kalanick
You have probably heard of the ride-sharing company Uber, but have you heard of their controversial co-founder and former CEO Travis Kalanick? After spending $800 in 2009 hiring a private driver with friends and with the help of Canadian entrepreneur Garrett Camp, the idea of reducing the cost of black car services was born.
That idea would morph into Uber, a service that now has over 110 million monthly active users worldwide, making it one of the most successful and valuable tech startups, worth about $83.8 billion today. Despite the success, Kalanick would be forced to resign in 2017 due to allegations of unethical work practices, a toxic workplace culture and allegations that he ignored reports of sexual harassment at the company.
Kalanick is worth around $5.3 billion
