Vera Wang
Vera Wang had a completely different life prior to becoming a world-famous fashion designer—two of them, in fact. First, she was an ice skater with her eyes set on the Olympics.
However, she failed to land a spot on the 1968 U.S. Olympic team and shifted to journalism, where she spent most of her 20s and 30s as an editor at Vogue. At age 40, she found her true calling when she designed her own wedding dress, launching what would become a long and successful career as an independent bridal designer.
