11. Waiting for your server to read your mind
Waiters hate to check up on the check. They don’t want their customers to feel rushed or ‘harassed,’ but if you don’t let them know when it’s time to take the check, how are they supposed to know? They can’t read your mind!
Kalk says that all servers are looking for a clue that you’re ready to pay, therefore leave. However, subtle signs don’t work as some would assume, so make it obvious! An etiquette rule most people don’t know is that they should leave the check presenter as it was placed by the waiter if they are not ready to pay.
