Waffles: USA vs. Netherlands
The U.S. is back in the mix, this time in a feud with the Netherlands! We love Waffles over here in America, so much so that the majority of the population would proudly claim we came up with the idea.
Whether you like yours with fried chicken or as a delicious breakfast dessert with fruit and cream, there’s no denying that this is an American staple, even more so since many believe Thomas Jefferson may have had something to do with this delicious invention! It’s said that upon returning from France, he brought back a waffle iron!
But doesn’t that prove that waffles were, in fact, not invented in the U.S.? What’s more, the waffle iron that we all know and love today was even traced back to Ancient Greece, making this debate even more head spinning. And don’t even get us started on the Belgian waffles, which have a more cake-like texture and are thicker- but just as yummy!
