Cornish pasty: Devon vs. Cornwall, UK

It’s widely believed that Cornish pastry pockets, made with meat and vegetables, were popularized in the 17th and 18th century by miners that needed easy, handheld meals to take with them to work. The name even suggests they originated in Cornwall, but that didn’t stop the people from Devon from claiming it as their own.

Dr. Todd Grey, an academic from Exeter University, uncovered a document that describes the pastries in Devon, not Cornwall, 236 years before any written accounts from Cornwall were ever found.

The counter-counter claim went even further, suggesting that cave paintings prove the existence of the pastries since primitive times!
