Cuban sandwich: Miami vs. Tampa, Florida, USA
Oh, the Cuban sandwich, the one dish that has sparked a feud right here on U.S. soil. Simply stuff a sandwich with cheese, meat, pickles, and custards and you’ve got yourself this beloved, easy to make sandwich.
Who, though, thought to put all these ingredients together in the first place? If you live in Tampa, you probably thought your city is responsible for this- the same foes for the people living in Miami.
Food historians say that it was invented in Tampa’s Ybor City, a city founded by cigar magnates in 1885. Not only that, it’s also the city’s signature sandwich! However, those from Miami say there’s no definitive proof on top of saying that their version of the sandwich is better since it doesn’t use salami.
