Earvin “Magic” Johnson

Many would rightly associate highly trained athletes with healthy food, after all, George Foreman has his Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, well not former basketball star Magic Johnson. In 2004, the NBA Hall of Famer decided to buy 30 Burger King restaurants in Atlanta, Birmingham, Dallas and Miami.

Although the restaurants don’t have his name above the door, they feature memorabilia from the former Los Angeles Laker’s legends career. This wasn’t the only toe he dipped into franchise waters, he also built 105 Starbucks in poorer urban communities with large minority populations. He would go on to sell them in 2010, at the same time as his 4.5% stake in the Lakers, netting himself around a cool $100 million.
