Area 51
Arguably the granddaddy of all mysterious locations and the fever dream of many a conspiracy theorist is the secretive and strange, definitely has aliens in it but most likely doesn’t, Area 51. This pop culture phenomenon started its life as a test facility in April 1955 for Project AQUATONE: the development of the Lockheed U-2 strategic reconnaissance aircraft, but has since gone on to be many things to many people.
Only publicly acknowledging the existence of the base for the first time on June 25, 2013, this highly classified United States Air Force (USAF) facility has had many, due to its secretive nature, theories attached to it. Being the location of the crashed UFO from the Roswell incident of July 1947 is probably the most famous, but that is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the Groom Lake facility.
