The Eternal Flame Falls
If you happen to find yourself wandering along the trails that crisscross the Chestnut Ridge Park, there is a good chance you might stumble upon Shale Creek Preserve with its curious and awe-inspiring natural phenomenon, appropriately named the Eternal Flame Falls. This wonder of nature is where many of the fundamental elements of our planet meet in one spectacular place. Earth, fire and water. As the water effortlessly cascades down the granite facade, flickering behind the cataracts you’ll find an ever burning flame.
The wonder of this location invokes scenes of rituals being performed to some fire deity or where a South American Prometheus stole his fire from the Gods (let’s hope he wasn’t bound to a rock with an eternally hungry liver eating eagle) and gave it to his people.
