10 Vintage Photos of the Great American Worker

Today we are just spoiled with convenience, either through ordering online or popping to our local supermarket where we can get everything from beef from Scotland to oranges from Spain. However, back in the day, it was a journey to the hustle and bustle of the local market filled with characters and an atmosphere modern retailers just can’t compare with.

This 1910 photograph shows Seattle’s Pike Place Market, famous for its fishmongers, produce stalls, craft stands, and specialty food shops. However, it’s equally famous for ‘fish throwing’, so much so that they have signs that read “Caution: Low Flying Fish”. Although this is a still image, you can almost hear the noise that would have filled this place.
