William Bullock
Remember the hypothetical scenario where the inventor of the printing press, Johannes Gutenberg, was crushed by his own invention? Well this is not that. This is not only real but pretty stupid. In 1863, American inventor William Bullock invented the web rotary press, a printing press fed by a continuous roll of paper that helped revolutionize the printing industry due to its great speed and efficiency.
On April 3, 1867, he was installing one of his new presses for the Philadelphia Public Ledger newspaper and tried to kick a driving belt onto a pulley, although not confirmed anyone who has to deal with technology had wanted to give it the occasional boot. Unfortunately for Bullock his leg became entangled in the machinery and crushed. Over the next few days the resulting injuries became gangrenous and required amputation. On April 12, 1867, he would die on the operating table.
