Cable Cord Cylinders
If you’ve ever owned a laptop then you may have noticed a cylinder on the charger- though this isn’t a laptop charger exclusive feature! Ever wonder what those are for? Known as a ferrite core or choke, these bulky cylinders have had many myths associated with them. The most prevalent one is that they somehow store a bit of electricity in case of emergencies, but that’s not the case.
Since the cables may act like antennas, unintentionally so, that means they can pick up or broadcast electrical interferences. That’s where the choke comes in, preventing these interferences from messing with the cord and, by proxy, with your device. So while they may seem unassuming, now you know they actually serve a very important purpose.
