Phoenix

This forever regenerating and immortal bird has long been a powerful spiritual totem, associated with the sun and representing transformation, death, and rebirth from its flames. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Egypt where they believed this mythical bird lived for at least 500 years, only one phoenix existed at any given time, was as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and a melodious cry.

When the phoenix sensed the end of its life was coming, it would build a nest from aromatic boughs and spices, set it alight and be consumed by the flames, only to then spring forth anew. After it’s rebirth, it would embalm its father’s ashes in an egg of myrrh and carry them to the city of the Sun, Heliopolis. There it would lay the ashes on an altar to the sun god Re (Ra), one of the creator gods of ancient Egypt and portrayed as a falcon.
