Jack Dawson
James Cameron’s epic $200 million blockbuster Titanic, the most expensive film ever made at the time, would see Leonardo DiCaprio achieve international stardom for his role as Jack Dawson an itinerant, poor orphan from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. However, it could have been quite different if Cameron had gone with his early choice for the role, you might even say it could have been “Alright, alright, alright.”
That’s because when Kate Winslet auditioned for the part of Rose, she would not be reading her lines across the table from DiCaprio, but a hunky Texan heartthrob, Matthew McConaughey. This missed opportunity wouldn’t adversely affect McConaughey’s career as he would go on to win an Academy Award in 2014 for “Dallas Buyers Club” while at the height of his much lauded “McConaissance”.
