We cannot talk about the King of Pop, without mentioning another legend in his own right. In 2007, Prince performed at Super Bowl XLI, placing what is not regarded as the greatest halftime show of all time! No one knew how much we needed to hear the singer backed up by a brass marching band until he literally brought the house down at that time!

Subsequently made even more famous after the man’s death in 2016, Prince performed a number of mashups of his own songs with iconic ones from Bob Dylan, Queen, and Foo Fighters. Everything was closed in what is thought as the most perfect rendition of Purple Rain, performed in the rain and including a wonderful guitar solo.

The rain definitely made everything seem magical!

Janet Jackson 

The 2004 halftime is infamous but some would say it is for all the wrong reasons! It is not because Tom Brady won his second championship, or due to the amazingly put together performance, but rather because of an incident. The night was headlined by a lot of people, one more famous than another.

Diddy performed in a sea of smoke and Nelly sang “Hot in Here” after she came out of a massive, bright red car. Kid Rock and Janet Jackson had had a massive show of 10 tracks accompanied by matching band interludes. Yet nothing is remembered as much as the moment when Justin Timberlake ripped Janet’s chest covering. Of course, everything was “accidental”, but it did imprint itself in the mind of thousands of spectators.

It was not all in vain. The night did birth a new phrase in the English language, one that is used until today and will probably continue to exist for as long as live performances thrive: “wardrobe malfunction”.
