Hoggle from “Labyrinth”
Remember David Bowies’s movie Labyrinth from 1986 that has a dwarf-goblin in it? It was actually found in a suitcase at the Unclaimed Baggage warehouse. The life-sized prop is authentic and while no one knew how it got in that bag, it remained with the company as they have bought the luggage with all that’s inside it. Now it resides alongside other items that are not for sale in the Unclaimed Baggage Center Museum. We wonder why the spoon did not have the same fate…
Space Shuttle Camera
NASA had a few modified cameras made for their Space Shuttle program. One of them was found in a lost suitcase! This late 1980s Nikon F was a specialized model and one of the first iterations of the digital camera. It was so rare that only three of them have ever been made. The Unclaimed Baggage decided to have the camera sent back to NASA due to its historical significance and rarity.
40.95-Carat Emerald
The most surprising find was this Colombian emerald that was found just chilling in someone’s luggage and by the price, it was appraised at, we are sure they are crying. Or not, as the origin of this stone is unknown. The jewel was found in a bag and then appraised, found out to be of Colombian origin, and appraised at $25,000. The store sold it for $17,000, which marks it at a pretty big discount, but it is also not unexpected. Colombian emeralds are the most expensive per carat, so the 40.95 carat jewel was sure to bring about a very big sum.
This loss definitely hit the bank…
