Arab Spring

A young vegetable vendor, Mohamed Bouazizi, set himself on fire on December 17, 2010 after suffering repeated abuse by Tunisian authorities.

His act channeled feelings of hopelessness into Tunisia’s Jasmine Revolution, which went on to inspire a protest movement throughout the Arab world called the Arab Spring. Fuelled by the growth of social media, this movement spread to Egypt, Morocco, and Syria, among others.
