In 2011, the government proposed a tuition hike of $1,625 per year for university students in the Canadian province of Quebec.

In February 2012, Quebec students went on strike and began a series of unprecedented youth demonstrations, wearing red squares and banging on pots. This movement, along with a series of corruption scandals, brought an end to the provincial liberal government.
