1. St. Valentine wasn’t just one person.

We all know that Valentine’s Day comes from Saint Valentine—but which of them? Because there were at least two men named Valentine, who were used as inspiration to name this popular holiday. According to History.com, one of them was actually a priest in third-century Rome.

It appears that this priest defied Emperor Claudius II’s ban regarding marriage, illegally marrying young lovers all in the name of love. He did so a while until he was caught, found guilty, and sentenced to death.

Another story claims that Valentine was actually killed for helping Christians escape prison in Rome and that he was the first man who sent a ‘valentine’ message while imprisoned. The message was signed ‘From your Valentine.’
