According to WHO, asbestos leads to several types of cancers, including lung cancer, cancer of the larynx and ovary, and mesothelioma. Every single year, approximately 40,000 American lives are taken by this naturally occurring mineral, and this actually translates to more than 44% of the global deaths caused by asbestos.

With this concerning number on the plate, you would think that asbestos is banned in our country, but, unfortunately, it is not. Although it is restricted in the U.S., it’s not FULLY banned. Those who are at a higher risk of developing a certain type of cancer due to asbestos are construction workers.

Other occupations that still represent a risk factor include miners, plumbers, firefighters, auto mechanics, power plant workers, insulators as well as electricians.

And wait! There’s more: If a family member was exposed to asbestos, you and the other family members are at risk of secondary exposure. With that in mind, how safe do you think you are right now? Do you still have in your house the following things? If yes, it’s about time to get rid of them—they may contain asbestos!
