1. Tipping only 15 percent
If you’re following the old rule when tipping your waiter, maybe that’s why he doesn’t smile as he used to. Not too long ago, we tipped our server 15 percent for irreproachable service and 10 percent for bad service. Nowadays, the rules have changed (a 5 percent increase).
According to the author of Manor of Manners and professional etiquette coach Maryanne Parker, the appropriate tip now is 20 percent. If you don’t usually tip your server, don’t be surprised if he/she rolls his/her eyes. First, keep in mind that your server relies mostly on tips.
