Scotch egg: England vs. Scotland
You will find Scotch eggs all over Scotland, you do not have to look hard! Even the name suggests these were invented in Scotland, but were they!?
One story recalls how the eggs were invented in 1738 at London’s Fortnum & Mason department store as a snack for wealthy people on carriage rides. Take a flight to northern India and you’ll meet people there claiming that they originated the golden-breadcrumbed eggs! There, they’re known as nargisi kofta.
Meanwhile, Scottish farmers have always claimed to have invented scotch eggs as a simple, handheld meal!
With not one, not two but three origin stories, it’s kind of hard to pinpoint the truth!
