Despite the name (gandy dancer), the job had nothing to do with ‘having moves like Jagger.’ In fact, it had nothing to do with dancing at all. A gandy dancer refers to a railroad worker who was responsible for maintaining the tracks. Back then, it wasn’t a machine to do all the work, and someone had to do it.

The job as a chimney sweep first appeared during the Industrial Revolution, and it has been around for some time. After adopting other alternatives such as gas and electricity, chimney sweeps saw a pretty rapid decline.
