9. Bowling Alley Pinsetter

Playing bowling wasn’t as easy as it is today, meaning that you actually needed some help. Pinsetters were workers that manually placed the pins for every single game. Once the mechanical pinsetter appeared in 1936, this occupation ended in the gutter. Gottfried Schmidt, the inventor of the mechanical pinsetter, is responsible for that!

10. Switchboard Operator

Now, if we want to contact someone, we have countless possibilities—we can call our friends and family members in an instant. Back in the day, directed communications and long-distance calls were handled by switchboard operators. However, by the early ’80s, the job was gradually phased out.
