11. Typist
Although they are still in-demand right now, typists aren’t using the typewriter anymore but computers and laptops. In the early ’40s, the job as a typist was truly appreciated, and we don’t say that today isn’t, but it was much more popular back then.
12. Catchpole
When we open the dictionary at the word ‘Catchpole,’ we will find out that the word comes from the French word ‘chacier‘ (to chase) and the medieval Latin word ‘pullus’ that means ‘chick.’ Catchpoles weren’t exactly chick catchers but debt collectors. And yes, there are still tax and debt collectors today, but Uncle Sam doesn’t go by the catchpole title.
