Unlike catchpoles, the clock winders did precisely what their names suggest, namely wind clocks. During the Industrial Revolution, this job saw its ending due to electric wind clocks production, which obviously required fewer repairs and less maintenance.

At the beginning of the 19th century, ice cutting was a pretty common activity. And no, the purpose of it wasn’t for clearing the roads but for keeping and storing the food for longer. Refrigerators weren’t invented back then; however, with their appearance, the heavy-lifting duty was gone.
