10 Extravagant or Downright Bizarre Purchases by Celebrities

Nicholas Cage

Let’s start with probably the most bizarre item on this list and a series of events that sound like a script from one of Nicholas Cage’s movies. Cage has been well known for his extravagant spending habits before, but in 2007, he and fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio got into a bidding war over something very old. 67 million year old to be exact.

The prize in question was the skull of a Mongolian Tyrannosaurus bataar (a close relative of the T-Rex), the largest dinosaur skull to ever be put up for auction at that time. DiCaprio is actually a fervent fossil collector, because of course he is, and wanted this for his collection. Sadly for Leo he would lose out when Cage outbid him, paying a stunning $276,000 for the skull.

Unfortunately for him, it would only remain in his collection (God knows what Cage collects, but I assume it’s super weird) for six years. In 2012, self-described ‘commercial paleontologist’ Eric Prokopi pleaded guilty to illegally importing fossils from Mongolia and China, one of those allegedly being the skull. So, in 2015, Cage had to turn over the skull to U.S. authorities so it can be returned to the Mongolian government.

  1. Nobody would have guessed it but despite of his outrageous personality and Republican popularity President Trump became a lame duck President after only 1 term in office. The Democrats loved it when President Elect Joe Biden JR won the Electoral and Popular vote in November of 2020. Trump called it a fake and stolen election and never gave a consultation speech.
