Roman Pope Gelasius was the bishop who officially declared February 14, St. Valentine’s Day. This was actually at the end of the 5th century; however, it wasn’t until the 1300s that Valentine’s Day became a holiday designed for celebrating romance and love.
This love tradition first started in France and England. How so? Well, since both countries associate bird mating season with February 14, maybe that’s why most people started to think of February 14 as St. Valentine’s Day.
