Hamburgers: USA vs. Germany
When foreigners think of the U.S., one of the first things that comes to mind is a big, juicy hamburger. We have several people to thank for this dish such as the Menches brothers from New York, Louis Lassen from Connecticut, Charlie Magreen from Wisconsin and Oscar Weber Bilby from Oklahoma.
But what if we actually had Germans to thank for hamburgers, instead?
Yep! The fact is that putting ground beef in a roll is not a new idea and it actually originated in northern Europe, where they called the roll a brötchen. So while we think of it as an American dish, it’s actually associated with the city of Hamburg, Germany!
