40% of babies are born to unmarried women in the U.S.
The percentage is quite scary, but, unfortunately, it is true. And, it wasn’t always like this. For instance, back in 1940, only 3.8 percent of babies had unmarried parents. That percentage remained low until 1969, when it hit 10 percent.
So, according to statistics, four out of ten babies born in our great country are actually born to unmarried parents. The biggest rates are in D.C. (approximately 59 percent) and Mississippi (around 54 percent), while the smallest is in Utah (approximately 20 percent).
