6. Canned foods

Before, we’ve said that leaving foods inside your car is a bad idea; however, what happens if we store canned ones in our vehicles? In general, canned foods are meant to last months, if not years, but this is valid only if we place them in our pantries.

During freezing weather, canned foods don’t belong in your car! Wondering why? Well… when you leave canned foods inside your car exposed to cold temperatures, the liquid in them expands, causing the seal to break. As a result, the food inside it spoils.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that we should throw the canned foods immediately if we see rust on the seams. The department also added that we should wrap the cans in paper or put them in a box so no one (including your pets) can get them.

Speaking of pets… they shouldn’t be left in the car either. According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), when exposed to heat, pets can experience brain damage or, even worse, they can die from heatstroke in mere minutes.
