Pen Cap Holes
The ubiquitous pen has many design elements that we don’t think about when we use them, such as the internal mechanisms, or the way the pen ensures a steady flow of ink when we write. But none of those elements can be categorized as literal life savers.
Nope, that title goes to the pen cap holes. If someone accidentally swallows the cap, the hole allows the passage of air.
You might be thinking that nobody would truly swallow one, though, but think about children who don’t know any better! Because they’re prone to stick things in their mouths, the hole gives parents and caregivers precious extra minutes while calling for help if the child is choking.
