There’s an endless controversy about Valentine’s Day. Some historians think that this day actually commemorates St. Valentine’s death, while others assume that Valentine’s Day comes from a pagan fertility festival named ‘Lupercalia.’
The festival was celebrated on February 15 in ancient Rome and was dedicated to the Roman god of agriculture called Faunus and to Romulus and Remus, Roman founders. Back then, this day was celebrated by doing all sorts of pagan rituals, including animal sacrifice, in order to encourage fertility.
